Our Values
Everyone deserves to feel safe here.
Understory Therapy is committed to providing affirming, culturally responsive care for people of every race, ethnicity, culture, nationality, immigration experience, gender identity, sexual orientation, family structure, body, faith tradition, and ability.
We recognize that every person's story is shaped by the communities, systems, and cultures they move through. Rather than asking clients to leave those parts of themselves at the door, we welcome them into the conversation.
We are committed to ongoing learning, humility, and accountability so that every person who walks through our doors is met with respect, curiosity, and dignity.
Meet the Therapist
Mitra Pedram, MSW, LCSW
I became a therapist because I'm endlessly curious about people and the stories they carry.
My work is collaborative, practical, and deeply relational. Rather than telling clients who they should become, I help them better understand themselves, develop new ways of responding to life's challenges, and build lives that reflect what matters most to them.
I draw from evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other trauma-informed practices. Therapy with me is both reflective and practical—we'll explore the "why" behind your experiences while also developing skills that support meaningful change outside the therapy room.
As an Iranian American therapist, I understand that culture, family, identity, and lived experience shape how we move through the world. I strive to create a space where clients feel seen in the fullness of who they are, and where differences are met with respect, curiosity, and genuine care.
